Just metres from the water, The Sandbar offers casual dining, for breakfast and lunch. With an extensive menu there is something tasty to please everyone. Our beach side deck is ideal for enjoying a meal and drinks, taking in the views of Port Phillip Bay with friends or watching the kids have fun playing on the beach.

Melbourne gifted us with one of those rare, picture-perfect autumn days—clear blue skies, a gentle warmth in the air, and the kind of golden light that makes you want to linger outdoors. There was no better place to soak it all in than Sandbar Beach Cafe, with its relaxed coastal vibe and prime position, making it an ideal setting for a long, lazy lunch.

Menu has a variety of dishes, including gluten-free and dairy-free options. We went with Crispy Fried Lemon and Pepper Calamari. The calamari was beautifully tender, enveloped in a light, crunchy coating where the bright citrus notes and cracked pepper provided a wonderful zing. Served with a vibrant rainbow slaw, seasoned chips, and a side of smoky chipotle mayo, it was the perfect balance of freshness and indulgence. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice lifted every bite.

The Barra Bowl was as nourishing as it was delicious. The grilled Spring Creek barramundi was cooked to flaky perfection, its delicate flavour complemented by the nutty crunch of furikake. Resting on a bed of brown rice, alongside tender broccoli, kale, edamame, and a punchy kick of kimchi, each mouthful offered a burst of flavour. The toasted sesame dressing brought it all together with a silky, nutty finish. It’s the kind of meal that leaves you feeling both satisfied and revitalised.

Of course, we couldn’t go past the Fish & Chips. The beer-battered barramundi was a triumph—golden, crisp, and light, giving way to a moist, flaky centre. The salt and vinegar seasoning added that classic seaside tang, while the creamy tartare and fresh lemon provided the perfect finishing touches. Served with the same crisp rainbow slaw, it was comfort food elevated by quality ingredients.

And then there were the Garlic Prawns, bathed in a rich and aromatic garlic butter. Simple and utterly moreish, they were gone in moments.

With the autumn sun casting a warm glow and the relaxed hum of Melbourne life in the background, Sandbar Beach Cafe delivered an afternoon to remember. The food was fresh and flavour-packed, the service was welcoming, and the thoughtful range of dishes to choose from.

The service throughout was excellent, and the food was fantastic with plenty of variety, which all of our guests really enjoyed. We’d highly recommend it for any function or special event.
